In a poignant moment from an interview in October 2019, Meghan Markle gave a heartbreaking reply when asked about her well-being.
During the segment that focused on her coping with press scrutiny in Britain, Tom Bradby inquired how she was managing.
Meghan’s response was filled with emotion: “Thank you for asking because not many people have asked if I’m OK.”
The interview, part of ‘Harry and Meghan: An African Journey’, captured Meghan acknowledging the silent struggles playing out away from the public gaze, “It’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”
At that time, Meghan was navigating first-time motherhood; she and Prince Harry had just celebrated the birth of Prince Archie in May 2019.
Meghan candidly discussed with Bradby her vulnerabilities as a new mother under intense media spotlight.
She expressed to Bradby: “Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable, and so that was made really challenging. And then when you have a newborn, you know? And especially as a woman, it’s a lot.”
Fighting tears, she continued: “So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed. It’s, um… yeah, I guess.”
Following that conversation, Meghan reflected on her dialogue with Bradby while speaking to Teenager Therapy.
Exhausted, she conveyed to the outlet: “I was tired. I was just about to give Archie a bath. I was exhausted.”
Meghan, who is now a mother to Princess Lilibet, 3, shared candidly: “I didn’t think about that answer. I just answered honestly. I was in a moment of vulnerability because I was tired – because there was no presentation.
“It was just, ‘Here’s where I am: I’m a mom with a 4.5-month-old baby and we are tired.’ But I think the reason it resonated with people is because everyone wants to be asked if they’re okay.”
After withdrawing from their Royal duties in early 2020, Harry and Meghan relocated to the United States. They expanded their family by welcoming a daughter—a sibling for Archie—in 2021 in California.
