April 6, 1910: The first Bulgarian documentary premiere in Sofia

The first Bulgarian documentary premiered on April 6, 1910. The Bulgarian War was shown at the Modern Theater cinema in downtown Sofia.

The Modern Theater was the first cinema in Bulgaria and the first building built for film screenings in the Balkans.

It was discovered by two Hungarians in 1908. In 1915, the first Bulgarian feature film, Bulgaran Is Gallant, premiered.

The Modern Theater operated as a cinema until 2013, reports BTA, following KosovaPress.

By 1912, there were already four large cinemas in the Bulgarian capital and cinemas in other major cities across the country.

Vlaykova, the oldest functioning cinema in Sofia, has maintained its old appearance since its founding in 1926.
