Greece will grind to a halt on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, as workers from both the private and public sectors stage a 24-hour strike.

The action, called by the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY), demands wage increases, the signing of collective bargaining agreements, and solutions to the housing crisis and soaring cost of living.

Who’s Joining the Strike? The mobilisation will see participation from a wide range of groups, including the Greek Air Traffic Controllers, seafarers, teachers, the Athens Labor Center, the Panhellenic Federation of Catering and Tourism Workers, and municipal employees. Meanwhile, journalists across all media outlets will hold their own 24-hour strike on Tuesday, April 8, following a joint decision by the Panhellenic Federation of Journalists’ Unions (POESY) and other journalistic associations, standing firm on their sector-specific demands.

What About Public Transport? Bus and trolleybus workers will join the strike with partial work stoppages, operating only from the start of their shifts until 9:00 AM and from 9:00 PM until the end of their shifts. Trains, including suburban rail services, will remain completely immobilised throughout the day.

As the country faces this wave of industrial action, citizens are advised to plan accordingly for widespread disruptions.
