Strupišis has been nominated by the Chairman of the Civil Cases Department, Normunds Salenieks, and the Chairman of the Criminal Cases Department, Anita Poļakova.

Vīduša was nominated by a majority of the Senators of the Department of Administrative Affairs.

Senator Laviņš, on the other hand, has put forward his own candidature.

Information on the nominations received will be forwarded to the Judicial Council for its opinion. Then, on 14 April, the Senators of the Supreme Court will decide at the Plenary Session which of the nominations should be submitted to the Saeima for confirmation.

The first term of office of President Strupišs ends on 15 June.
