Asda has made a major change to meat products in all stores and shoppers will be fuming. Asda has made a major move to the popular food items just months after Iceland received backlash for the same alteration.
Asda has introduced vacuum packaging on its fresh beef mince in stores at the end of March, and says it will use 60 per cent less plastic. An Asda spokesperson said: “We’re focused on delivering great value for our customers, without compromising on the quality of our products.
“By using vacuum sealed pouches across more of our beef and lamb mince products, we’re doubling the shelf-life of these products, which reduces food waste and helps customers save money in the process.

“This change will also see 60% less packaging used, reducing the number of trucks on the road and lowering carbon emissions.” Iceland shoppers were previously left livid after discovering supermarkets are now selling their mince meat in vacuumed packaging.
Iceland repackaged its beef and pork mince range into airtight vacuum packaging. One shopper, known as @yorkshirebargainhunter, had purchased reduced fat beef mince 10% and was horrified by the ”rank” state of the meat.
Opening the packaging and demonstrating its contents inside, the shopper said: ”This is absolutely disgusting. I didn’t know that they started vacuum-packing mince. ‘What the hell is that?”
They said: ‘Now that to me… What even is it? That is rank. ‘I get it’s the same product but it’s just like glue. It’s not even like proper mince. What have they done to it? It’s absolutely rank. I’m fuming about this.”
”I’ve never know for mince to look like that,” the shopper raged.Others agreed that the redesigned packaging “made the product look unappealing and horrible”, and that the return to plastic trays is a “good move”.
Another said vacuum packaging “made the meat mush” and caused it to look “unappealing”. “Will definitely be getting our mince meat from [Iceland] from now on, since you’re the only retailer that seems to listen to customers,” they said.
