Netherlands Enzymes And Prepared Enzymes Exports
In 2024, overseas shipments of enzymes and prepared enzymes (not elsewhere specified or included) (excluding rennet and concentrates) decreased by -17.5% to 64K tons, falling for the second year in a row after seven years of growth. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 79K tons in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, enzymes and prepared enzymes exports reduced slightly to $957M (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 41%. The exports peaked at $960M in 2023, and then fell modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Germany (6.4K tons), Belgium (5.6K tons) and the United States (5K tons) were the main destinations of enzymes and prepared enzymes exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 27% share of total exports.
From 2014 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +18.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($180M), the United States ($105M) and France ($45M) appeared to be the largest markets for enzymes and prepared enzymes exported from the Netherlands worldwide, together comprising 34% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Germany, with a CAGR of +20.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2024, the enzymes and prepared enzymes price stood at $14,917 per ton (FOB, Netherlands), with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.1%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($28,117 per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($6,076 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
