My energy prices have doubled since my fixed plan ended last year. I can’t just use half the energy the make up the difference.
Well in theory you could use less energy by turning things off. No heating, no tv or charging any other gadgets. That would mean going outside wearing more clothes or sleeping more.
People already are, there comes a point where that is just not possible anymore though. People have made all the cuts they can, telling them to use less when they are already only using the bare minimum is an insult.
Hey energy companies instead of telling us to use less, why dont you all get a 2nd job and stop buying expensive cars and avocado toasts.
I can’t use any less: I’ve huddled in jumper , hat and blanket in the dark for about 3 years already, and was frugal before that!
Over about 20 years:
All bulbs low energy or even LED.
New boiler.
All new insulation.
New roof.
Front of house rebuilt.
All new double glazing and doors.
Heating tended to be on 2 hours a day for winter only.
I dont turn mine on anymore. Still get fucked by the standing charges. Even when I was using it, my normal use was lower than the standing charges so don’t know how I could possibly use less.
So when is the revolution?
We can’t keep living like this and letting people choose between staying warm or eating.
The daily standing charge is so high we’re going to pay a lot of money even if usage goes to zero
I see. So we just pull a few fuses out and carry on do we? Nothing to worry about here, move along. Call yourself a manager? A problem solving, go getter executive type are you? If you’re so damn clever at the millionairing lark let’s hear your solutions.
Telling folk to use less is no use is it?
Well we do need to do that. Everyone wants to prevent climate change right? Well here is a great chance to do that and save some cash…
Maybe someone should start a campaign to insulate social housing, and make it more energy efficient.
Can’t think of a good name for something like that though.
