I think we’re about ready to see the term “Trumper Tantrum” defined in starkest possible terms.
Too little to late dipshits.
You smoke for 60 years, get cancer, and then quit smoking when they hook you up to a ventilator. That isn’t the same as quitting for real.
It is a start. Try harder.
What are the rest of the cowards waiting for?
These tariffs they’re saying have wiped trillions and right now that’s about 200 entire GMs and they were saying how terrible it was when Obama wanted to bail out one of them.
Triple that and you have enough to override a veto, assuming all the dems vote that way, too.
A good start, but we’ll see whether this goes anywhere in the House.
*”In a statement of administration policy, the White House budget office said the bill “would severely constrain the president’s ability to use authorities long recognized by Congress and upheld by the courts to respond to national emergencies and foreign threats.””*
The only emergency or threats we face right now are coming from Trump and his DOGE accomplices sapping and undermining every institution we have relied on for decades, if not a hundred or more years.
All credit to them for that.
At least some GOP senators are willing and brave enough to put the country ahead of the orange criminal.
It’s a start. People aren’t getting more of a backbone. Keep pushing. They’re starting to show cracks. More protests and call in’s must be done.
President’s tariffs would sunset in 60 days unless both chambers of Congress vote to keep them.
The 7 Senators are: “Grassley and McConnell have joined five other Republicans — Sens. Jerry Moran (Kan.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Thom Tillis (N.C.), Todd Young (Ind.) and Susan Collins (Maine) — in supporting the Trade Review Act of 2025.”
Strange that Rand Paul is not among them, given his public comments. I imagine trade wars are killing Kentucky’s bourbon industry, especially with Canada proactively removing American-made alcohol from its shelves.
While cynicism is justified, this is actually very good news. This demonstrates that pushback against Trump, from within the GOP, is not yet hopeless.
I’ll clap when I see the majority of the GOP come to their senses.
Write to these Senators. Thank them.
Write to their counterparts. Ask when they will stand up also.
Write to your House Rep and ask what they will do next.
Yes, it’s just a start, but at least it’s a start. If you don’t acknowledge and appreciate any rift from GOP then it will not happen again.
It’s the MAGA carousel. Find a few to go against Trump on an issue, but not nearly enough to make a difference. Lather, rinse, repeat with a different set of senators.
Plot twist – even if this bill somehow passes the Senate and the House (unlikely), Trump will veto the bill. And there’s no way this Congress has the numbers to make this bill veto proof.
Let me guess: none of them are up for reelection.
Susan “Waffles” Collins is one of them so I’d say 6 Senators.
Republicans could end this today.
If they wanted to. They all own this.
The house and Mike Johnson are the problem.
To reiterate (for the however manieth time), they just voted for a ‘funding’ bill that prevents their normal authority to fast track a vote on these tariffs by declaring days are not days in 2025. This is performance, will it move the needle against Trump? Maybe. But it’s still not a serious attempt at stopping the tariffs.
Republicans’ love language is money.
Fuck with their money and they might actually grow a spine
until you find 2/3s of both chambers, it’s just another meaningless headline.
Too little, too late.
Only 7? Shame. If you had any shame.
Jerry Moran and Todd Young are hardline conservatives. Tillis is up for election in 2026 and voting this way will result in a MAGA primary. This break from Trump is incredibly significant.
I think this is the first domino, but we need a serious SC case going against Trump to see a real pushback.
It’s a little late now, obviously, but don’t let that stop you.
>In a statement of administration policy, the White House budget office said the bill “would severely constrain the president’s ability to use authorities long recognized by Congress and upheld by the courts to respond to national emergencies and foreign threats.”
That’s kind of the point.
A better idea is to repeal the [International Emergency Economic Powers Act](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Emergency_Economic_Powers_Act). This economic ‘state of emergency’ in perpetuity, forever war crap, needs to stop.
So, 7 Republican senators, 45 Democrat senators, and 2 Independent senators are on board for this bill? How is the House looking?
Even if they were able to unwind the tariffs, I think they underestimate the damage that has already been done to the USA as a trade partner. There are grassroots boycott movements in Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and throughout Europe that will not end with the removal of tariffs. Companies and countries are permanently changing their supply chains.
They’re writing a bill for a law that already exists. The president can’t enact tarrifs without Congress’s -capitulation- agreement.
To late. The damage has been done. You had your chance to impeach him Moscow Mitch and Grassly. But you choose to save him. You are just as responsible fall the fall of the US as trump is. I have no idea how you two can sleep at night knowing the damage you have caused this country.
The rats are starting to jump off the sinking ship, including Musk with his 0% tariff statements. Glad that they are starting to see the cracks in the foundation of “Trump’s economic genius,” but clearly it’s all out of self preservation (i.e. keeping their jobs through the next election cycle), not actually trying to be at the forefront of helping their constituents (like, actually doing their jobs).
Oh Mitch, your stupid stupid turtle. This is your fault. I hate you so much
Rand Paul is calling Trump a tyrant for the Tariffs under emergency powers, and he still can’t even be assed to join this bill. Sad how opposed they all are to any bipartisam effort
the tarriffs sunset if not approved after 60 days… He would just let them expire for an hour and then reapply them. is this a joke?
13 more need to bend to be veto proof. More pressure on your senators.
Tomorrow’s headline: 7 GOP Senators departed to El Salvador
Wouldn’t it have to pass the House AND be veto-proof?
I’m confused on this. Why does Congress have to pass a bill in order to use the power that they already have? And then leave it open for veto?
They only care when it affects them. In true GOP fashion
Which even if it somehow got through would be promptly veto’d and there is no way we’re getting 67 senators + 290 house members to override. So this is just theater.
Hahaha.
Rounding up, totally innocent people off the street with unmarked vehicles masked officers who don’t identify themselves and disappearing them to a foreign country… That’s perfectly OK.
But oh Lordy, don’t you dare mess with my portfolio Mr. bad evil orange man that I helped get elected!
