A former emergency room doctor at Mass General Brigham is making history Tuesday in outer space.Dr. Johnny Kim, 41, is a former Navy SEAL, a Harvard Medical School graduate and a NASA astronaut, who arrived Tuesday at the International Space Station with two Russian cosmonauts.The trio, who took off from Kazakhstan, will conduct a variety of science projects while at the ISS.Kim’s family was in Kazakhstan to send him off, and his daughter asked what he’s going to do his first day in space. “I’m going to look at the earth, I’m going to think of you guys, and I’m going to try to give you a call,” Kim said.Kim becomes the first Korean-American to become a NASA astronaut. A former emergency room doctor at Mass General Brigham is making history Tuesday in outer space.

Dr. Johnny Kim, 41, is a former Navy SEAL, a Harvard Medical School graduate and a NASA astronaut, who arrived Tuesday at the International Space Station with two Russian cosmonauts.

The trio, who took off from Kazakhstan, will conduct a variety of science projects while at the ISS.

Kim’s family was in Kazakhstan to send him off, and his daughter asked what he’s going to do his first day in space.

“I’m going to look at the earth, I’m going to think of you guys, and I’m going to try to give you a call,” Kim said.

Kim becomes the first Korean-American to become a NASA astronaut.

He is scheduled to return to Earth in December.
