Why would they? It’s not like successive Conservative governments have given a single shit about disabled people for the past decade.

The Tories don’t view disabled people as human… The Tories view disabled people as subhuman… Nobody wants to openly say it but the Tory opinion of disabled people would not be out of place in The Third Reich. Tory opinions on the disabled its clearly heavily inspired by such thinking that was commonplace in 1930s Germany. Quite frankly that’s not an exaggeration if you look at what the Tories have done and what they have unleashed upon disabled people over the last 12 years. It amounts to a crime against humanity yet we do nothing as these psychopath elites carry out their evil, demented, crazed ideology and the state sponsored violence/murder via Tory policies aimed directly at the disabled.
I cannot understand why people with accessibility requirements were even placed in this building given the forehand knowledge of inadequate escape provision or place of refuge and the impracticality of providing these.
There’s a new huge extra care housing unit (like a step up from sheltered housing, but a step down from care home, for people with disabilities) in my local authority.
The area around it is hideously inaccessible. There is no wheelchair-accessible route from there to the local shops, supermarkets, park, bus station, etc. As soon as you exit the building, there isn’t anywhere safe for you cross the very trafficky road.
I emailed the council to ask what work is being done to allow residents to access the local community, since I had expected to see works underway to make the surrounding streets accessible.
I shit you not, the reply said ‘if residents have trouble accessing the local community, the care staff will pick that up’ and told me the building itself is wheelchair-accessible.
Great! The disableds can all stay cooped up in one building away from the local community! Fuck thinking about integrating them or allowing any independence! They can just ask care staff to fetch them things from the outside world. Yeah, surely care staff will have bags of time to sort all that shit out.
I was fucking *livid*.
Forgetting would imply that they would have done so in the first place.
