‘De-extinction’? Biotech company says Dire wolves brought back to life • FRANCE 24 English
Scientists from a Dallas company say they have brought back a kind of wolf that went extinct over 10,000 years ago. Three “dire wolf” cubs were genetically engineered to be brought back to life in an undisclosed secure location in the US, said the company. However, other scientists are skeptical about whether the cubs can really be classed as dire wolves.

Great! What could go wrong, right?
Once you've seen one, you've seen them all.
Grapes are sour, scientist?
Our ancestors that hunted them to extinction are rolling in the grave 💀
We have resurrected an ancient enemy 😂
❤
I guess 99.5% genetically similar is something but considering humans are 99.8% similar to chimpanzees it doesn’t really seem very impressive. It would seem like the typical wolf species would already be 99.5% similar to the Dire breed. I must be missing something here
Three is not the problem. The problem is when 3 becomes 4, and 4 becomes 5, etc., etc., and one gets away and/or is released back into the wild. Then… 10-20 years down the road, you have an ecological problem that can not be readily solved. Or… even worse, other species are resurrected, or resurrected as hybrids, which no one can control. So, just because one can does not mean one should. It is far better to protect what is currently in nature than to negate thousands of years of biological, environmental, and physical adaptation. JUST SAYING…
If the DNA is not 100% the same then it’s not a dire wolf, it’s just something similar. Chips have almost 99% of the same DNA that Humans have, but they are not human, perhaps they might be DNA scientists, but not human 😉
No expert here, but isn't evolution a thing? Bringing back things that don't have their original habitat and ecosystem, and were deselected, so to speak … uhm. I can see this used in conjunction with restoring recently modified ecosystems and preventing extinction … if it was artificially brought about by those changes. Maybe. Woolly the mammoth tho?
Bring the Great Auk back!
Great. Something new born to suffer. 🙁
