Workers who say a group of petroleum companies stiffed them on pay and breaks asked a judge to give their $7.2 million settlement initial approval.

The deal recovers more than $2,000 on average for approximately 2,200 people who worked for the companies—Andeavor, Andeavor Logistics LP, Tesoro Refining & Marketing Co., and Marathon Refining Logistics Services LLC—at three refineries and a chemical plant during a class period spanning nearly a decade, according to settlement documents filed Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
