Five million households face energy budget crunch as bills soar overnight | The Independent

  1. The Government have an incredibly outdated view on society. I truly believe they think all us common rabble get up at 8am each day, have the big pancake breakfast, take the kids to school for 9, go to work until 5, pick up the kids from daycare and spend the rest of the day in the pub, and shopping at the high street during the weekends off. Realistically it’s all a load of baloney because most people have to work every living hour of the day just to get by. I know it’s not worth their time for the Tories to actually research how the peasant folk actually live and try and survive their daily lives; if only they did so they can at least acknowledge not everybody is living the white picket fence house dream.

  2. somebody please tell me where i can vote to get more of this fantastic, levelling-up, feel-good action

    ffs

  3. This on the morning where there’s been snow overnight.

“It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen”.

  4. To be fair the Tories pushed the anti CO2 carbon credit agenda like the rest of Europe. Now this is what we get, no oil and gas when there is plenty in the North Sea.

  5. I’m now £1,500 worse off compared to a year or two ago. Fucking dread when my fixed rate ends.

But I’m glad our “betters” got a nice £2,200 salary increase. When we already pay for their energy bills. When we already pay for their rental expenses. When we already pay to subsidise their meals.

And they vote for children go hungry.

    [Fuck ’em.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EP7qgdSIfGQ)

  6. I’m listening to the radio and alot of elderly people calling in, in tears wondering how they are survive.

Its breaking my heart but at the same time… You look at the people who vote for them and the percentage they are at in the polls (30%) and wonder if I should really care.

  7. The government doesn’t give a shit as long as they get some kickbacks and their pals are happy at the expense of everyone else. I won’t be surprised if we see another rise in bills before the end of the summer.

  8. I’m really thankful I signed a lease with bills included and no usage or cost cap. It used to cost us more than if we sorted the bills ourselves, but we’re saving money now. Our landlord is hounding us to sign a new contract with a cap, but we’re holding fast.

  9. “But the increased profits are great news if you have private pension savings because it will be invested in these energy giants!!!!”

I hate these people. I can’t afford to save for tomorrow. I can barely afford to live for today.

I don’t particularly like my personal struggle benefiting those who can afford these bills and ALSO afford to save for their old age.

    Privatised utilities fucking suck.

  10. My energy bill has gone from £98 a month (already high in my opinion) to £265 a monfh. I did everything possible to use less energy, keeping heating low/off, turning shit off etc for nothing. I’m not wealthy but I certainly wouldn’t say I’m poor, yet I am truly concerned for how I’m supposed to afford that. How are people worse off than me supposed to? I just can’t understand it.

  11. How much wealth has to be stolen from society and pushed to the very top before anyone does anything about it?

“We’re all in it together” except we’re absolutely not and MPs are completely out of touch and indifferent about the struggles of everyone else.

  12. Honstely iv seen a few economic smarts at work basically say this crisis will kill the government as the knock effect of five million people suddenly not spending is going to cause more damage than if the government had basically done anything else to fix this.

  13. Things are so effed up in this country that, to be honest, I don’t even believe most of you here complaining. I bet you vote Tory. Such are the complexities of the British psyche

  14. I’m on a fixed rate until mid 2023 (started last september)but british gas are trying to increase my monthly payments by 100%, can they do this?
