US trade war: EU prepares to retaliate with Big Tech in its sights • FRANCE 24 English

France says a response from the EU to Trump’s new 20 percent tariff will “probably” come at the end of the month. A government spokesperson told French media RTL that services will be targeted, not just goods, including digital products from Big Tech companies like Google and Apple.

  1. Trump's tariffs may hurt Americans but they are meant to revive production in US, not being an importing developed country than any developed country. Countries are fighting for US market

  2. It's only fair. Yes, there is a car deficit, but we have our own deficits too, this should have been taken into account. Each country specializes in it's own thing for trade, the u.s gets cars from people making more cars, we got our tech from us cause they specialize in it more. Tarrifs do force countries into starting their own businesses, and if eu makes it's own social media and other types of platforms, which the u.s used a lot of foreign force to build in the first place, it will be trillions lost

  3. I'm sorry but with such bad ability to speak English, I'm just not going to listen. And I'm not gonna learn French either

  4. The AWS is a scam, stop buying Amazon services, I'm struggling with my organization CEO to not externalize our services to AWS, I'm for refurbishing our own datacenter and keep the servers and services in house.

  5. Now clever research people leave USA to come to EU to live and work here , and we welcome them
because they make out research environment better

  6. It’s only a matter of time before the EU will require US Citizens to get a tourist visa before they are allowed to enter the Schengen Area for vacation.

  7. Canada here, X, Google and Facebook lean their users to the right. Lots of studies on this hence what has happened in America.

  8. What is easyer: to move steel production from India back to the USA, or to bring cloud services from the USA to Europe?

  9. Let's put our bet on EU companies. But please EU and not European. Not UK, not Swiss, not Norwegian. But EU.

And let's differentiate also inside EU. Countries like Hungary and Slovakia can also not be trusted at the moment, sorry to say.

  10. Exactly what I was looking for – and my iPhone is getting old. Already switched to Linux, dropped FB, using local maps services, not using Google for search, and use european AI chat isntead of Chat GPT. We got all the skills we need in the EU, and the money. We just need to unite. Wasn't for a "too federated" EU before, but times have changed, and we have to aim for the "second best" – which might well be really, really good. We never had a truly united Europe in history before. This is where we rise to become the last outpost of fairness, rule of civil lav, upholding of international law and rules based society saying "NO" to oligarch and strong man rule. BUT we must keep the extremists in controll, and that includes islamist and far right ones, and any others. EU will trade fairly with the rest of the world, and take on the leadership role of the free world while US enters feaux-protectionstic decline. So be it! (Will drop YT)

  11. Tax the big us it corporations and subsidize open source alternatives in Europe, this way we can build our own services and boost our own economies

  12. My problem is that only now the EU wakes up that it is overly reliant on the US… it is only about letting Europeans create larger scale apps than country sized that's the biggest problem.

  13. If we hit US, they’ll whack us back…. Trade War and we all lose. How about we do nothing, except tell the US they’re gonna suffer higher prices. (Some of our businesses will suffer). And WAIT. Internal US pressures will be: ordinary citizens including GOP voters; the awfully wealthy investors who are losing money, Trump’s creating conditions (high inflation) that put off investment; GOP Reps and Senators expecting to lose their seats at the mid-terms next year…. Trump Admin. will HAVE to back down. So our governments do nothing, citizens can, of course, boycott US goods, big tech and holidays in the US 😃.

  14. Services as a retaliation tactic are actually brilliant from the EU. It's much easier to 'relocate' services, especially purely electronic services than it is to relocate physical factories. Years and billions in investment vs maybe a couple of months and millions. Based strategy.

  15. I would love to move from Apple IOS however my purchased content (music, movies and TV) ties me into Apple. I would love to see the EU addressing this by enabling a user in another environment accessing their purchases from other services.
