Chopped down to be replaced with broad leaf trees. That is a farmed forest. Nothing natural about it. Bleak at the moment but in years it’ll be nice
The removal of non-native conifers can only be a good thing
Pure fir though (thanks coillte) so hopefully gets replanted by actual decent broadleaf trees that will turn these areas into good places for animals and plants.
If anyone is up near Glencree the [German Military Cemetery](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glencree_German_war_cemetery) is both beautiful and terribly poignant.
They chopped the forest around the aurora hostel years back. Which was a shame as it was my favourite spot
This is good news in the long run 😄
I like to imagine there are herds of Glen of Imaal terriers roaming the mountains.
Commercial crops get harvested. Ecologically sterile and ultimately destructive to the environment.
must have
If you really think Coilte are going to replant this area with broadleaf, you are sadly mistaken. Ticktock, Cruagh, Hellfire are being improved, but not in Wicklow – unless you can post a link.
Progress
Thats what we do here throw our rubbish in the beautiful countryside..cut down forests..its a way of life!!
Same as ticknock out towards glencullen direction but it’s beneficial in the long term
There is a passage tomb up near the wicklow Dublin border, it was like something out of a fairy tale in the middle of a woods was so magical…….went up one day to find the forest was completely gone chopped down ,was actually depressing to see
