Noah Wyle Feels ‘Profoundly Sad and Disappointed’ That ER Creator’s Widow Sherri Crichton Sued Him Over The Pitt

  1. The Pitt is good. Odd pace. No character development. But good. It’s not anything like ER other than it’s in one

  2. This whole case would be a lot more convincing if they had sued Chicago Hope all those years ago…

But you can’t copyright ‘all hospital dramas’, and if you could, she wouldn’t hold the patent.

  3. > Still, the August 2024 suit claims, “The Pitt is ER. It’s not like ER, it’s not kind of ER, it’s not sort of ER. It is ER complete with the same executive producer, writer, star, production companies, studio and network as the planned ER reboot. No one has been fooled.”

It is still a different show though. She doesn’t own the copyright to the hospital drama genre. This is really petty.

  4. The Pitt isn’t ER the Pitt is 24. And if it’s both it’s something new.

  5. She’s just pissed that an ER revival got super delayed and a better show got made as a result.

Crichton does not own medical dramas, she can get bent.

  6. I mean, she could have allowed them to do what they originally wanted, which was John Carter 2.0, but as they couldn’t get her to agree, they pivoted and here we are.

She must have been a lot of fun to be married to.

Also, looks like she was only married to Michael Crichton for maybe three years, so does she really have his estate’s best interest at heart, or is she just being greedy?

  7. The fact that she’s the “creator’s widow” tells me all I need to know.

She just wants money and nothing more.

  8. If you read the book “Eruption”, a terrible collaboration of James Patterson with old research notes of Michael Crichton, then you’ll better understand that his widow seems to be squeezing money from the legacy of her husband, no matter how.

  9. I first heard about this show BECAUSE of the lawsuit and everything on paper made it sound like Wyle and the producers pulled a shitty move on Sherri Crichton. When it finally aired, I watched the first couple of episodes and my first reaction was, this is basically a re-coated ER. However, I would say that it once you get a few more episodes in, the show branches away from ER pretty quickly. Granted, I’m not a lawyer (I just play one on TV, lol) but I predict that the case will eventually be settled out of court.

  10. There’s been a dozen other medical dramas since ER wrapped. Stay away from Noah!

  11. I’m watching ER right now and it’s wayyyy more dramatic and in depth than the Pitt. There are quite a few differences. Only thing they both have is Noah Wylie. I actually like that it’s not so into the characters and is more about everything else going on around them. Noah’s performance is awesome in terms of dealing with PTSD especially after covid which I’m sure a lot of those in the medical field have experienced.

    The widow wants a check

  12. He’s sad that he has to pay for stealing the idea that gave him a chance to become famous in the first place. I think it’s a slap in the face for Crichton.

How about a show with Micheal C. Hall in which he’s a psycho killer that kills other killers but it’s not Dexter.

Or Sarah Jessica Parker with 3 friends in New York who talk about relationships is nothing like Sex in the City.

Give credit where credit is due. He should have paid a royalty fee and is sad because he knows the judge will feel the same way.

  13. The shows don’t feel similar at all unless you count being in an er.

  14. So, if you don’t read the article, this lawsuit seems utterly ridiculous. If you DO read the article and learn that Wylie and crew were working with her to reboot ER and pivoted to this when the reboot didn’t work out, it’s *slightly* less ridiculous, but still pretty fucking dumb. And I have pretty strong precedent to cite…

Comic writer Geoff Johns was developing a new imprint at DC comics called the Killing Zone that was reported to feature obscure characters like the Atomic Knight (a crusader with a giant dog in a post-apocalyptic wasteland) and G.I. Robot (an unspeaking robot soldier of mysterious origins who fought alongside the US military—less obscure now due to his inclusion in Creature Commandos, where he has been given speech).

I don’t know what happened to his DC imprint, but Johns seems to have soured on DC in recent years, most likely over not owning or having control of any of the 200+ characters he actually created over there. But the gist of it is that the imprint didn’t happen and Johns launched an IMAGE imprint instead featuring characters like Geiger (a crusader with a 2-headed wolf in a post apocalyptic wasteland… and features “nuclear knights”) and Junkyard Joe (an unspeaking robot soldier of mysterious origins who fought alongside the US military). It’s essentially the same exact situation, but DC/Warner Bros/Discovery have made no move to sue Johns now a couple years into this new imprint.

If anything, the Geoff Johns thing would be an easier case. But if there were a case at all, you can be sure the mega corporation would be suing. But they aren’t: because he has created original characters and concepts that are inspired by those originals and do their own thing. Just like Wylie and crew. Anyway, Crichton can get bent. She’s being stupid and unreasonable.

  15. According to the widow, hbo was in negotiations for an ER reboot, then abruptly ended negotiations and began developing the Pitt.

    She may have a case

  16. She should really be watch the The Pulse on Netflix lol

  17. The show is different enough to not be ER in a legal sense

I am still pretending this is ER when watching it though.

After the suit is won, they should bring back tons of ER cast for cameos over the next few seasons

  18. She’s the reason we didn’t get an ER reboot. Grrrrrrrrr

  19. I usually can’t stand medical shows. I dug house but it got tiring.

    I’m hooked on this show.

  20. All serious medical dramas are the same show. All light medical drama shows are the same. Stuff happens in a hospital setting. People react appropriately.

  21. We just started The Pitt last Saturday night and we blew through 6 episodes in a late night binge. I kept saying, “it’s over already?” after every episode. Love it!

  22. It’s always shameful to me when estates or family feel this entitled to work they didn’t create. And all they do create as a result is bad blood and tainted artwork. Truly a shame. Pitt is great. It is not an ER copy. Similar like most medical dramas, but absolutely not a dupe.

  23. She pissed she missed out on an effortless payday by asking for too much money and probably creative control just to slap Creighton’s name on a show for promotional purposes. Having watched ER for its entire run and now The Pitt, the only similarity is setting it in an ER. A location she can’t claim ownership of.

  24. He’s praying she doesn’t wear that to court.

  25. This happens all the time and it’s legal. Warcraft was originally going to be a Warhammer game but the Warhammer people backed out so blizzard changed the story and used the same assets.

Creighton backed out of doing er 2.0, so they changed the character names and location. Perfectly legal

  26. Gees we are all grown ups. It’s not ER, we can tell you know.

  27. Nobody does “profoundly sad and disappointed” better than Noah Wyle.
