Jewish students slam incoming NUS president for ‘attacking the Jewish community’

  1. My uni’s union isn’t affiliated with the NUS (although they are having a vote on it today) so this completely passed me by until today. I don’t know the full details but some of what she says really isn’t good and I think trying to make it about “Gendered Islamophobia” isn’t a good look (obviously islamophobia is a real issue, but that shouldn’t mean people can’t bring up what she has said previously).

  2. > While the president-elect has apologised for a tweet she made in back in 2012 and expressed her support for the Jewish community, she has also hit back at her critics.

    > “The pre-emptive scrutiny of Muslim women is symptomatic of the nature of Gendered Islamophobia,” Dallali told The Tab.

*”You’re the prejudiced ones for noticing the nasty shit I’ve said.”*

  3. No surprise is it really that she holds such views?

but the NUS has a track record of selecting such people as ‘president’…one such charmer, Malia Bouattia

it seems to be a requirement to be a racist/bigot and a woman

it seems white men need not apply as they won’t be considered

  4. Does anyone really give a flying proverbial what the NUS is or isn’t doing? Does anyone really care about their Uni’s SU? They’re just talking shops for busybodies looking to pad out their CV.

  5. I want to agree but the headline has “slam” in it so the entire article is worthless and is it’s designed to enrage you before you even read it.

  6. It’s been decades since I was at university. The NUS was an irrelevant organisation full of extremist nutjobs like this back then too. I see nothing’s changed. Trying to deflect the criticism as being islamophobia tells you all you need to know here. She’s a deeply unpleasant person. Exactly the sort that you’d expect to rise to the top of the NUS.

  7. hahaha this couldn’t be more of a stereotype of the politically active student if it tried.

Offended jews, going up against an offended Muslim woman. Nobody has even started in their position yet, and already two groups are trying to win the ‘most offended’ race.

They’re all offended by one another. Absolutely hilarious.

  8. The NUS is run by literal fucking nutters and has been for ages due to turn out in elections regularly being lower than 20%. When this happens only a small cohort of opinions shine through.

Every now and then a proper nutter like her comes through, previously we had one who refused to condemn ISIS and the press run with it.

No one, not one single fucker, gives a damn what the NUS think they are a running joke and frankly becoming the president is the quickest way to ensure you never become seriously involved in politics.
