Some of the natural gas running in Mexico’s Sistrangas natural gas pipeline system which previously caused power system interruptions has raised red flags with system operator Cenagas.

“Sistrangas operations are still exposed to the off-spec gas volumes that triggered massive blackouts in the Mexican southeast,” according to Wood Mackenzie analyst Ricardo Falcón.

Mexican states Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán all reported electricity service disruptions on March 24. Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) officials said high levels of “humidity” on the Mayakan natural gas pipeline serving the Yucatán Peninsula led to generation problems at the 300 MW Nuevo Pemex power plant.
