  1. The mistake wasn’t in casting people of color. It was putting them in the color that racist use to describe them. Yellow for Asian is not a great choice, especially considering the term “yellow fever”.

  2. Me and mates decided to get stoned and work through all the old power rangers. When the black dude was revealed as black ranger we sorta glanced at each ither with a chuckle and a raised eyebrow and someone said “I swear to christ if yellow ranger is Asian…” and there she was! We fell about laughing, like what the fuck it’s not like that’s a new thing, they knew how racist that was in the 90s!

  3. Why is Black Panther okay but the Black Ranger isn’t? I sincerely don’t understand.

  4. The version that most Power Rangers fans know is that he actually auditioned to be Blue and got the role, then he asked to be moved to Black instead for the reasons he explains in here. He always has been the No. 1 defender of Zack being the Black Ranger.

Yellow was just unfortunate since she was a last-minute replacement for the Yellow Ranger from the pilot, who was a Latina.

  5. The guy who played the black Ranger is fine with it. Why are you all up in arms? He’s not offended or upset like you want him to be?

  6. I think they can both be right. The writer probably didn’t want to break it down too far but the name Black Ranger can be spun in a positive way, slogans like black power and black liberation are a thing. Nobody really says yellow power lol, it’s the yellow ranger part that was the clear mistake.

  7. Can’t speak for everyone of course, but being called black was never an issue for me or anyone I’ve ever been around. It’s a source of pride. Adding to that that many people think black is the coolest of all colors this was never an issue growing up lol.

  8. What next, was making the girl the Pink Ranger misogyny?

  9. Zack was the earliest Black superhero I remeber as a kid. He was cool and he fought monsters.
