‘Six people have been arrested after a campaign group targeted fuel terminals in a protest against oil.
The arrests were made at three sites in Thurrock, Essex Police said.’
At what point does self-defence become a valid defense in these cases, at some point the actions of Exxon & friends should count as an imminent attack
People are furious whenever environmental protests inconvenience the public one iota, and screech “go protest the big polluters directly!!!1!”.
This is what happens when you do that. The media ignores you, and then you get arrested.
Finally – more expensive oil prices will win over the hearts and minds of the UK poor.
China will benefit if the UK reduces consumption and be able to open another coal fired power station.
I live near one of these protests.
Theres about 10 protestors and the police seem to have deployed the whole force to deal with them. There was more police than protesters probably 3 to 1 and a helicopter has been out all night.
People seem to be more annoyed about the police, they’ve been abusive to people trying to get home, go to work and drop kids to school. They’ve blocked roads even though they are accessible and its just massively heavy handed.
What makes it more annoying is if you get burgled good luck even getting the police to show up. We are right on the edge of the county and the police ignore our existence, but when something like this happens they come out in their droves. When the HS2 protests happened it was the same deal.
Funny how if its a big business’ profit margins being affected the police turn up but not for your average joe.
If we turn the switch off on oil today, our society will grind to a halt pretty quickly. All I hear from these people is no to this and no to that without ever giving a realistic way of doing it and offering alternative strategies in the timescale they want. Thousands of items in common use derive from oil. Give me a fast workable plan to stop oil and I’ll come and sit with you.
Great just what we need now is panic buying so they can put the price up a ~~bit~~ lot more
