Prince Harry visited victims of the war in Ukraine in an unannounced trip to the country on Thursday.
The Duke of Sussex went to the Superhumans Centre, a Lviv clinic that treats wounded soldiers, accompanied by four veterans. The centre provides prosthetics, reconstructive surgery and psychological help free of charge.
The unannounced trip was not disclosed until he had already left Ukraine.
The Duke, who served in the British Army for 10 years, is the second member of the royal family to visit Ukraine after Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, went to Kyiv last year.
Last month, Prince William met Ukrainian refugees during a two-day visit to Estonia.
Lviv has been a frequent target of Russian missiles during the war in Ukraine. The Foreign Office currently advises against all but essential travel to the city and its surrounding region.
When Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine in 2022, the Duke and Duchess condemned the war and said they “stand with the people of Ukraine”.
“Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and all of us at Archewell stand with the people of Ukraine against this breach of international and humanitarian law and encourage the global community and its leaders to do the same,” they said in a statement.
Prince Harry went to Ukraine after spending two days in London for his battle to win full taxpayer-funded security protection at the Court of Appeal.
His barrister warned that his “life is at stake” if the court does not reverse the royal and VIP executive committee’s decision to deny him the right to automatic police protection after he quit royal public duties in 2020.
