The lira USDTRY traded at 38.0620 against the U.S. dollar at 0405 GMT, weakening from its close of 37.94 on Thursday.
The main BIST 100 share index XU100 closed 0.68% higher at 9,338.58 points on Thursday.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Global stocks slumped and the dollar sank further on Friday, while a manic bond selloff took hold in a brutal end to the week of tit-for-tat worldwide tariffs that have fed fears of a deep recession and shaken investor confidence in U.S. assets.
DIPLOMACY FORUM
Turkey hosts the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in the Mediterranean city of Antalya on April 11-13, with various foreign leaders attending including Syria’s President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is expected to deliver a speech.
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek will attend the opening of Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
GAZA CONFLICT
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan hosts Palestinian, Saudi, Qatari and other counterparts to discuss a “two-state solution and lasting peace” related the Israeli attacks on Gaza, with Fidan later holding a press conference.
ENERGY MINISTER
Turkey’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar will attend to IICEC Energy and Climate Forum.
IMAMOGLU HEARING
Ekrem Imamoglu, the mayor of Istanbul and main rival of President Tayyip Erdogan, faces his first hearing over accusations leveled against him before he was jailed last month over separate charges that caused a political crisis and market selloff.
In the trial beginning on Friday, when his supporters are expected to protest outside his prison, Imamoglu is accused of insulting and threatening a public official in remarks criticising the Istanbul prosecutor in recent months.
CENTRAL BANK SURVEY (TRINTM=ECI)
The central bank will release its monthly survey of market participants’ expectations for the economy (0700 GMT).
