It was not a good idea to make this stratagem public. The word might get to the Russian front and reduce it’s effectiveness. Back in WW2 a US congressmen bragged about the US submarines being safe because the Japanese were setting their depth charges to the wrong depth. The Japanese that were of course monitoring the public airwaves got the clue and changed their tactics costing several subs and their crews.
