  1. I’m sure the poor teenagers cleaning up the mess left find it, “hilarious” 🙄

  2. They should throw stuff around inside the director’s house.

    Its hilarious.

  3. Of course the director of Napoleon Dynamite is a braindead idiot.

  4. Teenager threw a metal popcorn bowl 4 rows in front of him and hit a younger kid in the head in my showing.  So hilarious.

  5. I don’t even want to know how old he is or if he ever had a part time job

  6. I’m in the middle. On one hand, it’s completely unacceptable to be making a huge mess for minimum wage workers to clean up. On the other hand, this movie is fucking dogshit and I think a lot of people who are responsible for making Minecraft a box office smash hit are watching it ironically and laughing at Jack Black shouting Minecraft references in a way only he can do. I am 100% for the Minecraft Movie to be the new Rocky Horror or The Room with crazy audience participation that involves throwing things, but there’s a way to do it that’s not as much of a pain to clean up after. Maybe don’t do this shit when there are a ton of families with little kids around trying to earnestly watch the movie, but if you want to do this at a 10:15 PM show and literally everyone there clearly isn’t expecting this to be Schindler’s List, go fucking apeshit!!!!!! (AND TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

  7. If 9ne 9f those sodas hits the screen isn’t it like 80k for a new one.

  8. Perhaps they should volunteer to clean up all the theaters? It’s hilarious, until it’s your problem.

  9. Big “just throw the trash on the ground, that’s what the janitor gets paid for” energy from this dude.

  10. It isn’t just throwing a little popcorn. It is a big food fight with bags of popcorn.

  11. Everyone go throw trash in his yard, he thinks it’s hilarious

  12. What about the throwing sodas? So the chairs they land on are sticky and gross for the next movie?

  13. Wow, that’s a really disappointing response.

I was hoping the headline was clickbait, but no, the director is actually encouraging this shit.

The future of cinema in the US is looking pretty bleak….

  14. Super hilarious my man, the first thing I think about when I want to watch a movie is “I hope people are rowdy and throwing popcorn and shit around, that would be hilarious!” 🤨

  15. He likes the press… hell, the TikTok challenge might even *be* part of their marketing plan

But it’s yet another tone-def remark that shows another rich person not giving a shit about the lives of the working class

  16. No. It’s not. People’s behavior continues to go downhill.

  17. They could probably do alot more to help prevent this before having to call in the cops ffs.

  18. Fuck him for encouraging it. Minimum wage cinema workers shouldn’t have to deal with that crap and they don’t have the time between screenings either.

  19. What a fucking loser to say this. “Peasants can clean. It’s funny.”

  20. What an absolutely terrible way to handle that. I expected him or Jack Black to come out with a heartfelt “please stop” announcement.

  21. Ummm…because they’re being disruptive assholes?

  22. He’s giving real asshole energy when I had no opinion of him before.

  23. It’s hilarious that people have to be rude and disrespectful just to pretend they’re enjoying your shitty movie?

  24. For real though, how does one go about getting a giant bag of popcorn? Because I am hella broke and a giant bag of popcorn can go a long way for me.

  25. I get there’s probably going to be some kind of mess left after big blockbuster type films.

But just a quick Google search will show you videos of kids throwing popcorn and drinks at the screen (and i think an actual chicken was thrown during one screening.) It’s just straight up rude and disrespectful to others just trying to watch the movie and the staff that have to clean up after.

  26. Sounds like the director needs to spend a few shifts cleaning up after these stunts are pulled.

  27. It’s obnoxious. It’s rude to the staff and other moviegoers. It’s the opposite of basic cinema etiquette.

  28. I used to manage a couple theaters. The profit margins are TINY, the studio gets almost the entirety of the ticket income, hence concessions are so costly. Concession sales are the only way a theater stays open.

You make profit by getting as much customer through-put as possible. So you leave ~15 minutes between shows so you can get another auditrorium of people in. It’s already tight getting the place mostly clean between screenings with your average, inconsiderate people who leave all their trash behind.

This kind of crap isn’t “just people enjoying the movie in a weird way,” it’s vandalism. It isn’t a victimless “well, they were going to clean up anyway” type thing — there’s no way two kids with a broom and pan are cleaning this before the next show.

If someone came in your house and did this, you’d punch them in the face. Why do we think because you paid $15 for a ticket (that, again, is almost entirely going back to the studio and not the people who clean up after you) that this is ok? This sucks.

  29. This dude straight-up suuuucks. Just another reason not to go see this film.

  30. Is the director gonna come to every theater and clean up after? Are you gonna go and get the chicken people let loose in the theater? What an asshole!

  31. Of course, he finds it hilarious. He doesn’t have to be the one cleaning it up after every showing. Give him that job for one shift, and I’ll bet he’d start seeing what the issue is.

  32. This is really not a good thing for the director to say lol

  33. Funny that a director is not against behavior that results in more people not wanting to go to theaters

  34. These kids and teens have no semblance of theater manners, man.
Took my niece to see it since she loves Minecraft but we couldn’t hear ANYTHING from all the yelling and screaming. And when the chicken jockey scene happened so many teens were on each others shoulders throwing popcorn, drinks and anything else.
We ended up leaving before the end cause she was having a huge headache from it.

  35. “Making memories”. They aren’t making memories they are just trying to to get 5 mins of viral fame jumping on an already dumb fucking trend.

  36. Invite the public to a screening on the movie in your own house then, dude

  37. Maybe it could be the modern “Rocky horror picture show“

  38. Not long until they give it the full Rocky Horror treatment.
