>**Switzerland** is considering **amending its surveillance law** to expand into new types of monitoring and data collection.
>The changes – which experts argue will put people’s anonymity and secure encryption at risk – would widen the net of impacted service providers to **virtual private networks (VPNs), messaging apps, and social networks**, having previously only impacted mobile networks and internet service providers (ISPs).
>Consultations are now public and open until May 6, 2025.
I remember the huge public outcry back in the 1980ies, when Ernst Cincera’s “[Fichenskandal](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichenskandal)” came to light. Today, no-one bats en eye, when the snoopery of the European and Swiss authorities make the German Stasi look like a kindergarten.
This is disgusting and very un-Swiss.
How about we vet the people coming here and are selective rather than trying to fix it latter with mass surveillance of everyone (and fail).
So what can we do if there is no referendum? Someone we can tell? Like a “write your congressman” type thing?
