The Malta women’s volleyball national team are bidding for a place in the final of the U-18 CEV European Championships that are being held at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
The tournament, which is being organised by the Malta Volleyball Association, has attracted the participation of six national teams, namely Ireland, Monaco, Northern Ireland, San Marino and Scotland.
The participating teams were split into two sections, with Malta drawn in Pool A.
Here the Maltese team, guided by coach Pavle Drecun produced a strong display as they beat Ireland 3-1 and then brushed aside Monaco 3-0 to finish top of the group.
On Saturday night, Malta will face Northern Ireland in the semi-final and a win would put them through to Sunday’s final which is scheduled for 3pm.
The other semi-final will see Ireland face San Marino, with the latter placing top of Pool B after identical 3-0 wins over Northern Ireland and Scotland.
