  1. CO2 isn’t the only important metric. Solid waste to landfills (or oceans, sadly) is the main consideration here

  2. What about the impact of the leftover material? Paper degrades much much much faster than plastic does.

  3. I buy stainless steel and reuse them at most 7 times. Any more than that and I’m sure it’ll be contaminated with macro metals.

  4. There os one aspect left put in the study you linked. The fact that these straws end up in nature (usually the ocean), where it decomposes very slowly into microplastics that make their way up the food chain to us.

Talking about co2 emissions and energy consumption for the manufacturing of straws is only one part of the story

  5. I get it but I’ve yet to see several oceanic species either die from or suffer from paper straws.

Yes, plastic straws are superior to paper for drinking. But aluminum or steel are better and not one time use throw away.

  6. Plastic things can end up in Turtlesʼ nostrils, so thatʼs why the world moved to paper straws.

  7. FFS. Plastic straws being replaced is an attempt put slightly less palstic into the ocean not reducing fucking carbon emissions.

  8. – I find grams per CO2 (g/CO2) a bit irritating
    – I think the main argument against plastic straws was the microplastic problem and pollution of the environment, not greenhouse gasses.

  9. Seems good for commercial use. Less plastic waste and greener than the reusable options.

  10. Someone explain why we don’t care about killing trees anymore

  11. WTF is your point here? On the one hand it feels bitchy about paper straws but doesn’t illustrate that (shows the opposite) and completely misrepresents the concerns with plastic straws.

  12. Glass straws are the goat. I wish I tried them sooner. If you didnt try them, get a cheap pack from ikea, dont miss out!
