“Mr. President, we and you ought not now to pull on the ends of the rope in which you have tied the knot of war, because the more the two of us pull, the tighter that knot will be tied. And a moment may come when that knot will be tied so tight that even he who tied it will not have the strength to untie it, and then it will be necessary to cut that knot.”
Applies to US and China

A lot of the Cold War stuff was ridiculous. I wonder how things would shape up in an alternate timeline if America had lost…
Like Operation Cyclone certainly played its piece in destroying Afghanistan.
In this particular instance, it would seem both ends of the rope are held by the same party, that’s been taking erratic unilateral actions. The consequences, however, will be felt by all, including the ones blundering into tightening the knot around their own neck. If the US hangs itself, the rest of the world is a counterweight, which will still feel a heavy shock.
“I can untie anything in minutes, untie anything….because I have the intelligence”
If he said that to Trump
“You don’t tell me what to do!”
