Received the brochure this week in my post box (live in Vaud) and curious to see if anyone from other cantons received it and what additional info is provided inside (recommendations of where to go and what you should have in case of emergency).

  1. VD too. Maybe it’s in response to the flooding in VS last year? Or the international turmoil at the moment 🤔

  2. I’m in Zivilschutz in Nidwalden and was informed early, years ago, as I would be one of the guys at that Notfall Treffpunkt.

It’s not related to recent turmoil or anything – in Nidwalden, we started with it in 2019. It’s a Weisung from the Bund that cantons have to implement – some are faster, some are slower.

  3. that happens when the locations change. Municipalities started creating central emergency locations the last couple of years, as buildings don‘t come with emergency cellars anymore.

  4. In Aargau we received something similar a few years ago. Was used twice so far I think, once when the emergency numbers were not reachable.

  5. I was working for a municipality when Russia invaded Ukraine again three years ago and basically it sent our office cantonal de la protection civile (cantonal Zivilschutz) into a turmoil, probably because of the uncertainty and panic that happened at the time (and orders on the federal level I guess). They started inspecting all bunkers, starting with the municipal ones before moving on to the private ones, and began being much more strict about keeping them up to safety standards.

For example it was pretty common for years for local associations to use them for storage or reunion space but they had to be kicked out all at once.

My building got inspected a year ago and a few adjustments had to be made to our bunkers (a few holes filled, some old furniture being thrown out, etc.) to make them pass inspection. I know of a building where they’re facing tens of thousands of francs of mandatory works because they messed up their bunkers when transforming them ten years ago through a shady company.

Parallel to that, the commune received instructions about those Points de rencontre d’urgence and how the population was to be informed about them ASAP. They informed us employees first of course and then published some leaflets and articles in the commune’s newsletter. In my own commune I received a leaflet about a year later.

Hope that helps explain it! In summary, new war with Ukraine meant the Swiss government realised they were a bit too relaxed about their emergency measures and decided to update and maintain them better.
