A prominent Facebook page has been found to be sharing unverified stories and allegations regarding children in public being filmed illegally by immigrants – with Asian men in particular being the targets. The Facebook page is Fighting Justice Against Predators, with links to the far-right group Patriotic Alternative. Police Scotland have not found any evidence to support the allegations despite investigating.

    In the mind of a conspiracist this only confirms their belief – obviously the police would say that, they’re all in on it, etc etc. It’s basically impossible to argue with these people because they’ve created a world, an ecosystem, from which there’s no escape, all you can do is try to prevent people you love and care about falling into the same trap.

  11. I’ve seen an uptick of this sort of stuff in my areas local FB group but about “non indigenous delivery drivers” and how “the police are telling me to let everyone know”.
    I’m no police officer but I highly doubt they are telling people to spread these sensationalist. You know, just incase it’s all bullshit and you’ve started an online harassment campaign against someone who may be innocent.

    But the area has always been quite left leaning and middle class.
    So to see the amount of people jumping on the bandwagon because “people shouldn’t be afraid to call these people out just because they are immigrants” is quite shocking and it’s worrying to see how easily the older generation can be duped.

    I tried bringing the topic of this stuff appearing up with my parents, because I worry they could fall into the right wing pipeline, and they think I’m being paranoid and it’s all a conspiracy because “why would anyone want to do that in a small local group”.

    I think it’s hard for non techie people to comprehend how the internet really works and what power it truly holds. Even after the Cambridge analytica scandal where it was proven that the internet can and is used this way most still have their heads in the sand.

They find a cause that everyone reacts to emotionally, in this case protecting children from sexual predators, which would be a worthy cause, and lining it to whichever groups they dislike. Their basis here is evidently racial. If you get someone good and riled up so that their emotion takes over instead of their thought, it’s a lot easier to point at someone and have the moon go after them.

  24. I quit all social media 5 years ago. I recently try joined reddit, but i don’t really consider it social media. More like an amalgamation of minute forums.
    Anyway, at the time I quit i thought social media was toxic and just bought out not just the worst but the true person. It had me actually growing to dislike people I thought I’d known my entire life. I’ve never missed Facebook, and I don’t engage in conversations where Facebook is the source in any way.

    But when I saw all those social media and tech fuckers lined up behind Trump at his inauguration. I knew none of it was by accident. It wasn’t people being their true self. It was people reacting to being deliberately provoked and encouraged to hate your neighbour and fellow man.
    Social media is nothing more than a propaganda control tool. Only it doesn’t limit itself to one section of society. Right wing or left, gay or straight, brown or white, rich or poor, no matter your religion. They will have you hating people that aren’t like you.
    They’ve even got people debating the shapenof the fucking planet!!! This wasn’t a debate for about 1000 years until social media came along.
    Vegans never used to be dick heads until social media came along. Along with many, many other things.
    I’ve seen about 20 trans people in real life in the 45 years I’ve been alive. Yet if you listen to people talk, you’d think they were a threat to the fabric of life.

    Social media is making 1984 so easy for them to pull off. They don’t even force us to look at the screen all day, they know everyone is addicted.

Was in Strathy the other day, male of middle Eastern appearance maybe Saudi or Jordanian or something like that, oh facetime to a female he’s sitting taking in the sun on a wee bench then this fucking scheme dog and her feral children pass by him, she starts accusing him of recording her kids and does he not know whats happening on Facebook and all the usual shite, we pass her, I make a small comment about how he’s clearly on facetime if you took a second to look you can see the wee bird in the corner. She’s doesnt accept she’s wrong or anything just says he should know better with whats happening. She walked away with what I assume was her mutant mother who was slogging up behind struggling no doubt due to onset of COPD. Guy was just confused and went on with his conversation. Someone’s gonna end up hurt cause some pedo group is spreading shite.

  30. I recall seeing a post about the “protest” that got moved from the hotel, and they made rather explicit that there were to be no racial slurs at the protest. This, of course, being an entirely normal request that we all need to make at social gatherings.
