  1. I’m afraid I’m partly responsible.

My first job was in an extrusions factory in the East Midlands that had the contract for making the rubber seal strips for the door and other joins.

My job was punching the attachment holes and I did enough of them (5 if not 6 figures) that I probably at least covered one roll out of them – I’m not old enough to have done the initial wave but certainly an expansion and probably at about the right time to be replacing the very last of the beautiful originals.

    Apologies.

  2. Everything’s been different recently compared to the good old days. They were good days, weren’t they, the good old days, back in the day.

  3. Hot take: i like the logo of the guy calling(?) via a horn but the rest is peak 80s modern design in the most boring way

  4. One is a lovely phone box, the other one is what is referred to in my town as a “bag head box” lol.

  5. There has been a recent upgrade with some telephone boxes being turned into difibulator boxes though.

  6. Alot if not most of the new ones are long gone. The old ones are still around since they are massive lumps of cast iron. They are often maintained by locals as little landmarks. A fair few are bought by people wanting them as garden ornaments.

  7. The glass ones were a lot less like going in a urinal than the red ones. Most red ones were awful inside.

  8. I grew up in the 90s. I liked the new ones because they were more like the one on Bill & Ted (the cartoon, I didn’t see the film until later).

  9. The biggest downgrade is removing them entirely. I have fond enough memories of the modern phone boxes personally.
