  3. From an outside perspective it appears that all the money the EU pumped into Poland was money well spent. Hopefully one of the leading european powerhouses in a few years. Great admiration for the polish people and their achivements throughout history. Greetings from Austria

  4. this semester I was teaching statistics and data analysis for Bachelor’s students in math. To show them some principles of univariate analysis I showed them the difference between median and the mean – we can take a sample of 1000 where there’s one person that owns 10000 units of something and others own zero.

Median (and much higher quantiles as well) will be equal to zero, whereas mean is going to be equal 100.

We can even go further – for instance let us imagine the game where every participant starts with capital of one, but at each turn with some probability p your capital is multiplied by some constant C, say C = 5, and with probability 1- p it is set to zero.

By playing around with constants p, C we find that there exists a combination such that the average wealth in the population steadily increases, but the median wealth of a member of the population at some point is just zero. Does it mean that the population become richer?

I did not look at the data, but since they only talk about millionaires I guess it might be something like this.

  5. I am a university student in italy. A lot of people studying finance in my uni want to move to Poland because of job opportunities.
