All ‘public’ Facebook and Instagram posts and photos by Irish and European users are now part of Meta’s AI-training system

  1. Obligatory if you’re not paying for the product…you are the product.

  2. Well now we know that AI won’t be intelligent

  3. Does that mean it can use all the copyrighted images of products and peoples art? If someone took a picture of someone’s else’s artwork they haven’t consented to Facebook using that image.

Europe should put a stop to this but I guess there’s no way to stop them now.

  4. There is a way to opt out of this in settings I believe

  5. Should I make a post telling them I don’t agree to this and ask 15 of my friends to copy and paste it?

  6. Not mine. I made a Facebook post telling Mark Zuckerberg that he couldn’t use my photos to train his AI.

  7. I remember my mad aunt posting this on Facebook 10 years ago.

You weren’t crazy after all, Auntie Breda!

  8. My brain is healthier, and my relationships are more authentic since I downloaded my data and deleted my Facebook and Instagram accounts. Recommended.

  9. This should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody and your personal outrage is pointless and irrelevant. You signed up and agreed to the terms.

  10. Does this only include posts going forward? Or is it retroactive to all public posts? What about posts from people over 18 that have accounts dating back to when they were minors? Or minors now who will turn 18, will their posts from when they were underage stay unused, or does all of their posts from age 17 and under become “fair game” once they turn 18? When they say “public posts” how does that work with regards posts set to friends/followers only, or in members only groups? Lots of unanswered questions here.

  11. Interesting. I read a theory years ago that Facebook basically halted development of their image recognition because parents were uploading images of their children who could not consent to image processing. Perhaps they got around any legal implications of this this time.

  12. get ready for another round of people thinking a post like this will work.

Hello 🔵 It’s official. Signed at 8:44 PM. It was even on TV. Mine really turned blue. Don’t forget that tomorrow starts the new Facebook rule (aka… new name, META) where they can use your photos. Don’t forget the deadline is today!!!

I do not authorize META, Facebook or any entity associated with Facebook to use my photos, information, messages or posts, past or future.

With this statement, I notify Facebook that

it is strictly prohibited to disclose, copy, distribute or take any other action against me based on this profile and/or its contents. Violation of privacy may be punishable by law.

    Here’s how to do it:

Hold your finger anywhere in this message and “copy” will appear. Click “copy”. Then go to your page, create a new post and place your finger anywhere in the empty field. “Paste” will appear and click Paste.

    This will bypass the system….

    He who does nothing consents.”

  13. Any constructive suggestions for alternatives to Instagram, or a good social tool?

  14. Trying to move away from big tech as much as possible, there’s some limits because trying to convince people to move off the big platforms is basically impossible but now I upload my full albums of events and larger things to Pixelfed (https://www.pixelfed.ie) and then link to the album from Facebook.

Instagram/Facebook don’t get all the pictures but friends and family still on the platform just have to click a link to see them.
