Friends, family mourn Montgomery business owner killed in shooting

  • 15.04.2025

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Several friends and family members have come forward to celebrate the life and legacy of Travis Jackson, a Montgomery business owner who was killed Friday night.

Jackson died over the weekend after being fatally shot in the Newtown community. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.

Employees at Rich Life Barbershop say Jackson made a difference in the lives of all he touched.

“He showed me 100 percent respect,” said one employee.

“They took an angel, they took an icon, they took a pioneer,” another employee said.

Travis didn’t just have a successful barbershop in Montgomery, Rich Life was also a clothing store in Eastdale Mall, which Jackson’s friends say was a way for him to express his creativity and give back to the community.

“Travis always had a mindset that if you do good, good will follow,” said Devonta Murphy, Travis’s brother.

Devonta said he was supposed to be with Travis the night he was shot.

“It was almost time to close, got a phone call saying something happened to him.”

As Travis’s family awaits justice, they say they will keep his legacy alive by ensuring his business continues to serve its customers.

“We’re gonna keep everybody, hold everybody up because these are trying times right now, but we’re gonna keep this going,” Devonta said.

Friends and family of Travis say the best way to support is through Travis’s Barbershop and clothing store in Eastdale Mall.
