It’s the dumbest shit. I genuinely cannot believe people think this is a good idea. Put people out of work, and put more of them into harms way when they have to go into “underground” work. Fucking pathetic.
That’ll be Edinburgh of the list for many a stag do then. May be seen as a positive by some but a shitload of lost revenue for traders in the city.
What exactly are the downsides to this kind of work existing?
What motivates them to ban it?
I am reading it right that a paid job for a dancer in a strip club is categorised as sexual exploitation / violence by the government?
It is stupid objectively but I grew up in Edinburgh and the City actively doesn’t want to be seen as a travel destination for stuff like this. Theres a real prudish undercurrent to the city behind its artsy and vibrant exterior.
A cleverer friend than me once said cannabis will never be legalised in Scotland even if the individual SNP/green MSPs want it to be, because of concerns that Edinburgh City centre will be filled with tacky weed related shops and entertainment with tourists from England coming up for a fun weekend. And honestly I think there’s a hell of a lot of truth to that because, let’s face it, it would happen.
It’s a horrible city. Thinks it’s better than it is. Remember my mum in the 70’s going there and people where tut tutting because she was wearing a mini skirt !!
How did the councillors vote. If the LibDem councillors voted against I would be very disappointed. We’re meant to be pro-business
Scottish goverment putting their noses where it doesn’t need to be again.
How are drug dealers gonna find new single mother girlfriends now?!
This decision is based on the flawed assumption that banning these activities causes them to stop. It doesn’t. Where there’s money to be made, the practice will continue. All that will happen now is that the workers won’t have the protection of legal clubs which have to obey rules.
Also what becomes of the clients/users when the clubs close? Do they just spill out into ordinary night clubs and bars where they cause trouble because they’re used to women being paid to put up with their crap?
It’s not to my taste but just because I don’t like it, doesn’t mean it should be banned!
Or did someone get caught there and now has to do something to show they are a changed person? 🤔
