Rabat – Morocco continues to rally support for its Autonomy Plan as the only feasible political solution to end the Western Sahara dispute.
Croatia joined the international consensus, noting that it considers the autonomy initiative a good basis for reaching a political solution to the dispute.
Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs Gordan Grlic-Radman conveyed his country’s position in a joint declaration adopted following talks on Wednesday with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.
The Croatian minister also renewed his country’s support for the UN-led political process aimed at reaching a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution between all parties to the dispute.
Bourita and Grlic Radman also agreed on the exclusivity of the UN in the political process, reaffirming their support for the UN Security Council Resolution 2756 of October last year.
The UN Security Council resolution emphasized the role and responsibility of the parties in pursuing a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting agreement and a political solution based on compromise.
Croatia’s remarks come amid a wave of growing support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, which has witnessed renewed momentum throughout the years.
Many countries continue to express their backing for the Moroccan initiative as a serious and credible basis to end the dispute.
Many of those countries have also reiterated their recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces
On April 8, the US State Department reaffirmed its position, supporting Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces over its Western Sahara.
“The Secretary reiterated that the United States recognizes Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara and supports Morocco’s serious, credible, and realistic Autonomy Proposal as the only basis for a just and lasting solution to the dispute,” the US State Department said.
A few days later, France echoed the same position during Bourita’s visit to France earlier this week.
Following his meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, the French government released a statement shutting down the Algerian regime’s misinformation.
In the statement, France reiterated its unchangeable position, confirming the recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces announced by Emmanuel Macron in July.
In addition to the US and France, several countries reaffirmed their support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, including Estonia, Moldova, among many others.
In Europe alone, over 20 countries support Morocco’s autonomy initiative as a serious and credible political solution.
Arab countries like Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, and many others share the same position, endorsing the Moroccan initiative as a serious and credible political solution to end the dispute.
