China’s Xi continues charm offensive in Southeast Asia • FRANCE 24 English

After Vietnam, China’s President Xi Jinping has arrived in Malaysia. Unlike Vietnam, which trades more with the United States than with China, Malaysia has kept China as its top trading partner for 16 years. During the visit, Xi is also expected to discuss a free trade agreement between China and ASEAN, as Malaysia is currently chair of the regional bloc. Meanwhile, as the trade war with the US escalates, Beijing has reportedly ordered its largest airlines to halt further deliveries of Boeing jets.

  1. The still shot was taken when President Xi bends forward a little to accept a bouquet of flowers from a small boy. France 24 intentionally use this shot to steer the viewers imagination, you people stoop quite low.

  2. How can Trump accuses China of reneging on a sale agreement? Trump himself reneged on open trade agreement with all countries, including the penguins.

  3. Where’s Macron? I guess he’s busy spraying Lancôme perfume on his body. He doesn’t even know where’s Vietnam, the former colony of the Mother France … I think he should come & see “the small Paris in Hanoi” for once in his life. With ❤ to Paris from Hanoi.

  4. Malaysia and China have been bonding since the era of the Empire of the Malacca Sultanate under King Parameswara and the Chinese Empire of Ming under Emperor Yongle. And this diplomatic relationship has been in place since 500 years ago. Even the United States of America does not exist yet.

  5. Japan at least now is able to restraint a US company..hope they could stand up and fight and not willingly follow US

  6. In the long history before the United States appeared, China's Ming Dynasty had already established a good trade partnership with Malaysia. Now they are just further leveraging their respective geographical and resource advantages to develop a win-win business relationship. Maybe there are some disputes between the two sides over maritime interests, but this is not beyond negotiation and resolution. I believe the future of the two countries will be better. Come on, Malaysia!

  7. China does not consume enough ? They registered 27M new cars per year, while the US registered 15M. In 2024 the US bought virtual no Chinese cars. Most Chinese OEM cars were bought locally by the Chinese.

  8. Charm offensive? I don't think charm has anything to do with this…. Xi is doing what true leaders should and are doing… Being on the ground meeting stakeholders and establishing new business opportunities while reviewing current ones.

  9. Malaysia is indeed a very blessed land, strategically located in between 2 large economies of Asia and geographically well guarded against natural calamities with a well balanced mixed population of the indigenous people of the land, the Malays of the archipelago, the Chinese of the East, and the Indians of the South, making it Truly Asia.

  10. Great to see CHINA making friends and with Asian countries, as the Chinese say " it is always better to have one more friend than one more enemy " GO CHINA MALASIA VIETNAM

  11. China halt Boeing order so Airbus is the winner right 😅 so please add more investment in Malaysia because we also among biggest Airbus customer in Asia and don't like Boeing buy Spirit AeroSystem in Malaysia..

  12. trump playing tough with xi.. then he called xi first to ask xi to call him back… haha i think that was funny!!

  13. Two countries that are not far apart and have been doing trade for a long time, negotiating because a lunatic set the world commerce on fire: CHARM OFFENSIVE.
Everything that China does is labelled as a tactic or a great plane, spying, and dominance. They are just negotiating among themselves because the US pushed it. Lean back…
