When it comes to style, the Danish royal family certainly has a knack for coordinating their looks. One they proved this week when they attended a special performance at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen to mark Princess Isabella’s milestone 18th birthday.
Held on April 15 (Isabella’s actual birthday isn’t until the 21st), the event was attended by more than 1,000 celebrants for a program that, according to the royal family’s Instagram, ranged “from classical opera and ballet to modern dance, musicals and pop music.” Also in attendance, of course, was Isabella’s family, including her parents, King Frederik and Queen Mary, and siblings Crown Prince Christian, Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent. Isabella’s grandmother, Queen Margrethe, who abdicated the throne last year and is herself celebrating on birthday on April 16, also joined them for the evening.
Their outfits all complemented one other, as members of the royal family wore shades of black, white, and navy. The princes had on classic black tuxedos, while their father opted for a luxe navy version. Josephine echoed both of her parents in a navy jumpsuit with cape sleeves that glittered with sequins on the interior—a nod toward Queen Mary’s glitzy, fringed skirt. Mary topped the sparkling column skirt with a black satin top which she accessorized with a brooch, necklace, and earrings from the Danish Ruby parure, which dates back to the coronation of Napoleon.
Birthday girl Isabella wore a navy Jesper Høvring ballgown with sparkling silver flecks. To complete the look, she borrowed a bit of jewelry from her mother’s collection, opting for a set of diamond chandelier earrings that Queen Mary purchased in 2016 and has since worn on numerous occasions, including the 80th birthday gala for King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway.
