Speaking in our 2025 Japan Country Profile, Takeshi Okada, president of Warner Music Japan, says that the “dichotomy” between streaming and physical sales is gradually fading in Japan. “Instead, the industry is shifting towards a 360-degree model that maximises revenue by creating hits through streaming, while enhancing artist-fan engagement through the likes of physical products, live events, merchandising and fan club businesses,” he says.
