Out of 115,000 total postboxes, this is one of only ~110 from the reign of Edward VIII (Ramsgate, UK)

  1. I always forget that royal mail has been around since 1516. Always feels like an industrial revolution creation

  2. There’s one in North Cardiff too! Told my wife this as we went past one day and, weirdly, she wasn’t that interested

  3. And clearly couldn’t be in an area more appreciative

  4. I’ve often wondered about this but never thought to look it up. Instead I started looking at pillar boxes in the hope of finding an Edward 8th one. Now I know there’s only one I will have to find a new minor obsession.

  5. A new postbox was installed on my (new build) estate a few weeks back, but I was disappointed to notice it was an Elizabeth II. Must have been working through stored ones still.

  6. Never seen an Edward VIII but I’m actually surprised there were as many as 110 installed in such a short reign.

I got mildly excited at seeing an Edward VII in Bridlington but no one I was with could give a shite.

  7. I think the only non-EIIR one I’ve seen is a GVIR. Are there any VR post boxes in existence? Or did red post boxes not exist during Viccie’s reign?

  8. There’s one round the corner from me in Broadstairs (town next to Ramsgate) and in really good nick. Just recently got repainted too!
