Republican allowed into El Salvador prison, as Democrat denied access

    A Republican lawmaker was granted access to El Salvador’s notorious super-prison, while a Democratic senator’s request to visit detained U.S. citizen Kilmar Abrego Garcia was denied by President Nayib Bukele’s government.

    Rep. Riley Moore of West Virginia’s 2nd District shared photos from inside El Salvador’s high-security Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) on Wednesday.

  3. I remember reading about WWII where nations banded together to form two groups: “The Allies” (us the more or less good guys) and “The Axis” (the baddies.)

    Trump is rapidly becoming the de-facto leader of the new Axis. Every cruel dictatorial leader gets a free golden passport. And we, the anti-MAGA American majority, are literally being treated like a hostile nation.

  4. This whole situation is going to blow up in Bukeles face. This prison had tremendous support among Salvadorans since it was intended to house the worst gang members. Now that he is throwing deported migrants in there support has plummeted. Most Salvadorans (myself included) are 100% against this. Real short sided in my opinion since Trump will not be around forever and the next Democrat in office is almost certainly going to “punish” Bukele.

    Also, if he got in, why don’t we know if Abrego is alive?  He’s willing to go in for a photo shoot, but makes no effort to clarify if he’s alive or even inside that facility.

Remember that this ghoulishness is actually great for the escalation in the courts, because Republicans being granted access but Democrats being denied has already been used against the Trump admin in court. Even if Trump jumps every hoop to force the confrontation is worse and worse and worse its necessary- we need him to stop boiling the frog and to start exploding it. The more outrageous the lawlessness the more regular people will be completely unable to ignore it.

  16. If the Democrats ever get in power again there should be deep consequences for El Salvador or at least the current regime. Consequences for evil behaviour.

  17. The El Salvadorian authorities need to be told in no uncertain terms that trump won’t be in power forever and there will be retribution for the current actions by their government.

  20. Detaining people, transporting them to another country, and imprisoning them, all without due process, is criminal kidnapping, human trafficking, and unlawful imprisonment.

  33. I don’t agree with or condone what is happening at all. But both of these politicians were asking for two different things.
    One wanted to visited the facility while the other wanted to personally speak and meet with Garcia.

    Granted both should have had access granted, but they were NOT asking for the same thing.

    This shouldn’t even be happening.

  34. The lack of humanity one must have to take a smiling, thumbs-up photo with **HUMAN BEINGS** behind you in those conditions is unfathomable to me. These people make me sick, and I am so embarrassed that these are our “leaders”. I have never been more ashamed to be a U.S. citizen.

  39. I think it’s important to note that there seems to be a false equivalence here. Rep. Moore requested a tour, Senator Van Hollen requested to see a specific person. While I don’t work in corrections, I would assume that there is a significant difference between touring a prison and meeting a specific person incarcerated within the prison even just considering the approval process and logistics.

    That still doesn’t make the optics any better. The photo Moore took makes him look like a complete tool bag. It’s even worse that the he is making light of people in prison, bragged about it on social media, seemingly did nothing to help a sitting Senator, and did nothing to investigate or try to address an injustice towards a legal resident of the United States where the Supreme Court ordered the executive branch to coordinate his return.

    IMO, he violated his oath of office and I would be ashamed if he were my representative.
