> However, this won’t be due to a reversal of global heating, or a summer cool snap across Britain. Instead, **the Met Office is changing the definition of a heatwave** in eight counties **by raising the required temperature threshold**.
> Rather than marking some new scientific standard for heatwaves, **this new definition is simply a normalisation of higher temperatures in the UK.** It will probably lead to fewer news reports and official statistics about heatwaves, without representing any actual respite from the record high temperatures of the past decade.
All by design. There’s currently micro plastics being found at the bottom of the ocean, the top of Mt Everest, the wombs of pregnant women and now the other day it’s been detected in our blood.
None of it gets nearly the coverage it deserves because we can’t have the masses begin worrying, who the fuck would care about slaving away in a job they hate if they knew the sheer damage being done to the planet and virtually every form of life on it? The news and state institutions operate along economic interests, thats why Will Smith’s slap gets more coverage than the fact a ice sheet the size of Britain is increasingly likely to collapse in the not so distant future.
The fact that billionaires like Bill Gates are still buying multi million pound properties in areas they’re telling us will be underwater soon is a much better fact.
Climate change deniers will only double down as time goes on regardless. The Met could declare the same number of heatwaves, or even more, and climate change deniers would still bury their heads in the sand. While this could be a gift for them, they don’t need help to ignore the realities of climate change.
I don’t know how you people link it to climate change deniers, but calling +18 outside a heatwave is plain ridiculous. Soon you’ll have cold waves instead of winter.
Its not a heatwave if that’s your new permanent summer weather
