Last October I made a post on here about hatching some quails. My husband bought the eggs from a farm shop, which were intended to be food, but instead we incubated them and ended up with 9 quails. The post I made got roughly 3k upvotes and hundreds of replies, and I kept meaning to do an update. Instead of doing an update, I stupidly deleted the post.

Anyway, the babies grew up and it was fun watching them. A couple of weeks ago, there was an incident. The quails were outside in their run and something attacked them. When we went outside, their door was open and 6 of our quails were gone. There were some piles of feathers in the garden and behind the shed. Our favourite girl, our only white quail, was amongst those missing.

The first thing we did was get 7 eggs out of their house and put them in the incubator. I also got 4 out of the fridge from the previous day. It currently looks like 10 out of the 11 are developing and they will hatch within the next 48 hours.

Last time I posted, some people suggested I do a live stream of the babies.. so that is exactly what I am doing. I sat for hours every day just watching the baby quails run around. It was just so fun to watch so this time I'm going to attempt to share that joy. Hopefully some of you can watch these eggs hatch 🐣

  1. The one in the photo is a Tuxedo quail. She’s a beauty.

I used to have many quail. Just fyi they only lay eggs if there’s a male. And the males can be quite aggressive so best to have only 1 with 6/7 females.

Also get some diatomaceous earth for them to bathe in to prevent mites.

They love little caterpillars and they love mealworms.

    Edit:

If you had a fox or something kill them then you really need to build a more secure housing for them. Otherwise you’re just feeding foxes.

  2. This is great to see, thanks for the update (I’m the guy who had Higgins the Pheasant hatched from an egg).

  3. Lets get the big one out the way: pets or food?

Edit: Do people even eat Quail? I have no idea

  4. ONE OF THE EGGS JUST MOVED!!! 🥹🥹🥹 They’re going to hatch soon!
