STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — If you’re looking for a great way to celebrate Earth Day this year, a variety of activities are being offered during the first ever Staten Island Climate Week.

From April 19 through April 26, dozens of organizations and city agencies are joining forces under the guidance of the Community Climate Corps and EcoWind Media to bring this first-of-its-kind initiative to Staten Islanders of all ages.

“We’re excited to launch Staten Island Climate Week and activate spaces across the borough,” said Nonprofit Staten Island’s Rob Grosso, who leads the Community Climate Corps team. “Showing up—whether for a cleanup, a hike, or a performance—creates real momentum. We’re proud to support this week and look forward to collaborating with our CCC ambassadors, who are key in unifying these opportunities for our borough.”

Kicking off the week is a performance of “Flood Sensor Aunty” at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden on Saturday, April 19, at 1:30 p.m.

“Flood Sensor Aunty is a funny, family-friendly piece that blends devised theater with community-centered disaster education. It follows a flood sensor working in her aunt’s chai shop who dreams of becoming a movie star—and along the way, explores the power of knowing your neighbors when facing climate change and uncertainty,” according to the press release.

On Earth Day itself, which falls on Tuesday, April 22, three events are running across the borough throughout the day.
