  1. Unfortunately we had slimey, spineless leaders like Blair who were too busy sucking US schlong rather than doing the right thing. Oh, and fuck you, Vance.

  2. The objective reality. I hate the trump admin but the EU has pretty much as much blood on its hands as the USA. And befour anyone comes to defend it, fucking Bush admitted it was unjustified and illegal so I don’t wanna hear it

  3. France did the right thing and paid the price, the UK and Spain actually helped, don’t know about others tbh.

He’s right, but he’s ignoring the consequences of saying no to the US war machine

  4. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Vance may not be the perfect person to call out European nations but that doesn’t underscores Europe’s collusion in Iraq War.

  5. How? By saying “no America please don’t invade” the Americans wouldn’t have given a shit about what we said look how they treated France. Like seriously how was the EU meant to stop the US from invading Iraq

  6. All of this is just regurgitated old news by Vance. He should talk more about the increasing amorality of us foreign (and internal) policy and the subservience to dictators and autocrats. And how that is supposed to build a stronger US.

    Fatface eyeliner fuck.

  7. “I think we should see other people, our codependent relationship is too unhealthy” says the husband who convinced his wife to whit her career to become a housewife.

  8. Maybe this could have been avoided if the US didnt prop up Iraq for an attack on Iran and Kuwait a few years prior. EUROPE DID IT

  9. I find it ironic to say this while fucking iraq till this day. The fact that they refuse to withdraw their military forces out of iraq despite the calls to do so for YEARS is quite something.

Also, i know that is true, but i also find it weird to say this when you are opposing most of the world in another conflict…. like, if they actually listened to your advice and decided to stop your support for wars in the region, maybe that would make you a little angry? Shouldn’t you keep it to yourself to avoid hitting a nerve and make things tougher for you?

  10. So now we are openly and explicitly telling other nations to stop looking to the US as a leader, and in fact are *scolding* other nations for doing so for years.

  11. thought this was /r/nottheonion for a moment.

The hubris, the American exceptionalism, the lies, and wilful ignorance. We really are barrelling towards an uncertain future with people like this at the helm.

  12. You know I stole a car worse, you know what’s worse.

My friend jimmy said “Hey, you really shouldn’t steal that car”, and I told him “Yeah well screw you I’m stealing the car and if you tell anyone I’ll beat you up”.. and Jimmy just stood there quietly.

So anyway, that’s why I blame Jimmy for why things went wrong… he really should have been stronger and stopped me.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t think vance is entirely wrong on this… I don’t comprehend the complete inconsistancy of their overall messaging. It’s almost like a part of me wants to think he’s actually a double agent. Guys standing next to america’s hitler announcing “Hey world… I’m next to America’s Hitler, we’re pushing to invade and do terrible things, are you really just going to hide off to the side and let us get away with it? You really shouldn’t wait for the perl harbor equivelant of what we are doing.

  13. “Look what you made us do! Why didn’t you stop me? Such a pussy you can’t even try!”

Fucking abuser language. Like, straight-up basic case study abuser language.

  14. JD Vance needs to pound sand up his ass. He is pathetic, uninformed and surprisingly uneducated on all the world politics that he should know.
    ” Only the best people”.

  15. > Vance also alludes to his own experience as a combat veteran of the Iraq War. “Something I know a little bit more personally: I think a lot of European nations were right about our invasion of Iraq. And frankly, if the Europeans had been a little more independent, and a little more willing to stand up, then maybe we could have saved the entire world from the strategic disaster that was the American-led invasion of Iraq.”

lol come on. [Not like the German foreign minister tried to stop the US for everyone to see in 2003.](https://youtu.be/CpuN-yM1sZU?t=65) He openly asked why Iraq and why now. What’s the rush when it was a so called war on terror. It wasn’t a war for retaliation (“time to finish the job”), roll backs[ or to help Israel.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Clean_Break:_A_New_Strategy_for_Securing_the_Realm). At least for the public at the time. The US didn’t give a fuck and went to war anyway.

Stand up to the US? When the whole country was after blood and the most important country in NATO? Sure. And today Europe should demand prison for Bush Jr. and his gang i guess? Let’s see how the only real super power will react to such a demand…

  16. Lmao that’s spicy.

Just yesterday on some other sub, I was saying how that one moment pretty much vindicated 5 decades of the French “non-aligned alliance” policy. And boy how much shit did we take, both from the US and from the rest of NATO.

The funny thing is that, as years went by and the war on terror went on with disastrous effect, people in France kept referring to a particular moment in the Iraq sequence (the speech given at the UN by then-Foreign Minister de Villepin) as a watershed moment for Ftance’s strategic independence posture. And we’re very obviously living through times where having an established European power that’s somewhat independent of the US is quite welcome.

To be clear, having been right on Iraq doesn’t absolve France of its numerous colonial and post colonial failures. But I’m proud of the stance we took in 2002.
