‘Shocking’ number of complaints made against Metropolitan Police

  1. *”Issues included the general level of service provided to discriminatory behaviour and sexual misconduct.”*

*”Members of the public made 1,921 complaints against the Metropolitan Police in January and February of this year.”*

*”Of the complaints received, 33 were for discriminatory behaviour relating to race.”*

*”Scotland Yard has also received eight complaints relating to the sexual conduct of officers so far in 2022.”*

*”Five complaints of sexual assault have been made and one complaint was made for sexual harassment.”*

*”The other two made were related to “other sexual conduct.”*

This isn’t the whole article or in full order. Just bits a bobs.

Sexual met force…oops sorry, apparently it’s a service now 🤭

  3. As anyone who has worked in a public-facing role in *any* industry can attest: that a complaint is made does not necessarily indicate that any wrongdoing has occurred.

This is particularly true in policing. A police officer who does his job correctly is likely to leave a string of unhappy people in his wake.

EDIT: just opened BBC News and found this, which I think demonstrates my point: https://bbc.in/3uHGPzd?fbclid=IwAR1qssC3V15Ufox1xK_YtZAZGniAbnYS66Xi6WJS6kI_69bsK_9SAMeshxI – just because someone complained, that doesn’t mean any wrongdoing has occurred.

  4. How many complaints were upheld though?

When I worked in branch I had a customer make a complaint of racism when his account got shut down. The complaint was not upheld. He was committing money laundering.

Having high number of complaints isn’t a strong indication of a company doing well or not, upheld complaints are.

  5. Simply revealing the _number_ of complaints doesn’t really mean much. Only a small percentage of complaints are actually upheld. The overwhelming majority of complaints are either baseless or downright malicious.

  6. I arrested a wanted rapist (convicted at Court). Big lad. Cuffed him. Before putting him in the van, he asked for a cigarette. I let him have a final smoke before taking him into custody. He put in a complaint saying that as I’d let him have a cigarette, there was no justification for the handcuffs and that I’d used excessive force. If I’d really suspected he might run or kick off, I would have put him straight in the van. That’s on my forever file now.

  7. Only shocking if you’re silly enough to believe the police are here to protect and serve, or some other bollocks.

  8. “Shocking number”

How many is it compared to how many calls there were to the police arrests made, interviews done, or how many people they dealt woth

  9. Complaining about the police is so *en vogue* at the moment. Numbers of complaints are utterly meaningless, since even the dumbest, malicious complaints need to be investigated and recorded.

  10. Look if you don’t like brown people, get a kick from smacking your wife, and/or degrading children, then you can get a job with the Met Police and be surrounded by likeminded people!

  11. There are two types of police:
Those that what to protect others and maintain the law, and those that want to control others and abuse their power. The problem is trying to differentiate between the two.

  12. How many complaints did they receive about their partygate corruption? They rejected all of those complaints, presumably so they don’t have to log and report them.

  13. They’re institutionalised pricks. I used to post on the police sub, not with sentences like my first, but just voicing concerns of a citizen, such as how they can investigate a party in which their officers were standing guard.

Long story short, I got banned from the sub. Pricks.

  14. Shocking to whom? Certainly not the public nor the met who receives the complaints and ignores them.

Shocking number of complaints about the met ignored by the met would be more appropriate.

Ma’am calm down I need to inform you, that you, are in fact, complaining to me, about me.

  15. I’m a police officer and I’ve had 5 complaints about me that I can remember in the last 2 years. All of them have been thrown out immediately

One woman claimed I was harassing her – I was actually making genuine reports to social services

One boy claimed I beat him up on arrest – 4x body worn cameras showed I never touched him

One victim said I wasn’t doing my job properly – she was actually annoyed at the CPS not doing their job properly

One man claimed I used excessive force on him – I restrained and handcuffed him after he swung two punches at me (I let the first one slide)

And one person complained that I arrested him too much – I arrested him 5 times in a year and he plead guilty to every offence

So when you read that we have X amount of complaints, I imagine a lot of them are similar to this. The nature of the job means we are going to upset people. Lots of complaints will be genuine, but I’d imagine the majority are a load of bollocks
