  1. I’m sure some people will find things to complain about but this makes me really happy as a user of this bridge. It looks great and we wont have to deal with squeezing past people on the narrow outer paths and cyclists ignoring the “no riding” signs anymore

  2. This bridge is just too uneconomical to repair fully. Smartest thing to do would be to keep the towers and build a new bridge. That’s what they did with the Budapest chain bridge after it got blown up near the end of world war 2. Oh and it was built by the [same guy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Tierney_Clark) who built the original Hammersmith bridge.

  3. Interesting, so pedestrians no longer use the paths either side of the trunk route? I look forward to trying it out!

  4. It’s open to everyone. You just need to not be in a motor vehicle.

  5. I’m so glad the only solution to “it’s too expensive to rebuild it for car traffic” was not “it has to be demolished”. Which sounded like they were considering it.

    This is really good.

  6. Very tidy but once again fuck poor people on buses. The wealthy living in the immediate area love that the riff-raff find it harder to use as a thoroughfare, and lesser areas have to contend with the increased and displaced traffic.

  7. Walked my bike over about a month ago and did not expect it to be open already! This is a pleasant surprise 🙂

  8. I’ve been waiting for this day for so long – thank god. Cycle over it twice a day 7 days a week, took me 5mins of stressful hell to walk over with the pedestrians each way, old people tripping over my pedals, pushchairs, runners and cargo bikes battering into everyone.

People constantly being rude and cunty to each other which is just So Lovely first thing in the morning and after a day of work. Literally been the worst part of my life for 2 years so it reopening is a huge quality of life improvement

  9. Should’ve just let buses go over it because then you’d have to either walk over to the other side or have a longer journey to one of the other bridges
