UK fishing boat still held by French, despite minister George Eustice’s claim

  1. The ship is still in Le Havre and should not move “as long as the court has not ruled on the appeal of the administration” for the lawyer, Mathieu Croix, specialist in maritime law and mandated by the owner of the boat. Examination which should take place “normally next week but we do not have a date for the moment”, ends the lawyer. The captain risks a fine of 75,000 euros.

The captain is accused of having fished more than two tons of scallops without authorization. The French administration requested the seizure of the vessel and a deposit of 150,000 euros. This request was rejected by the judge of freedoms. The administration therefore appealed.

The British government initially declared that the seizure was illegal because the owner had a license, then admitting that it had not been renewed for 2021. A second mistake today by the British government: the announcement of the end of the seizure, contradicted two hours later by the owner.

  2. Well they haven’t been sized because they were british, only because they didn’t have a license at all.

The content of the article is way less sensationalist than the title.
