Its really sad how Riga looks compared to Vilnus and Tallin. That happens when city leaders just want to build huge megaprojects, they can get countless million kickbacks, and dont care about the city at all. Of course people are moving away.
Congestion pricing would alleviate the car problem in Riga, especially in the city center. But that will probably never happen, as most of the city’s officials drive with their personal vehicles to work from their comfortable suburbs and we, the city locals, have to maintain the streets with our tax money.

It’s all nonsense talking until Riga has got a proper ring road. The traffic is forced to drive trough Riga.
The current outer ring road cannot be used because it gets standstill due to traffic and is incredibly long and far away.
All the activists are not educated about this fact and naive, thinking that limiting traffic will eliminate the use of cars.
Landlords are killing Riga, with their hiked up leases. Main streets should be brimming with businesses. But instead every other window is empty.
