Bosnia is in danger of breaking up, warns EU’s top official in the state

  1. As an ignorant in this matter, three questions for citizens of Bosnia:
    a) do all nationalities (I mean usual citizens, not elites) want to break the country, or only Serbs?
    b) do Serbs want to gain independence, or join Serbia?
    c) how high is the probability, that two Bosnian states (Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with Bosnians and Croats and, let’s say, Western Serbia) will work better to solve problems of their citizens and have better quality of democracy? I don’t know actual situation there, but if it’s so troubled like Lebanon, than maybe it’s not such a bad idea? Or maybe you think, that the United country can work all its problems out better?

  2. As it is BiH is beyond doomed forever and maybe a slow and peaceful process of a brakeup should be done. The country is in a non stop state of deadlock… if one side comes up with a idea the other 2 will stop it no matter what because its not thair idea, no good idea will ever be implemented that benefits all sides.

I really can’t see a country working like that. The best possible solution to organise a brakeup of Serbian and Croatian parts and for Bosnia with the help of both Croatia and the EU to be a part of the EU as fast as possible.(guide them in, not just let them have a free pass obviously)

  3. Honestly, would anybody fight for preserving Bosnia as it is? The state has clearly been not functioning for decades. Further Balkanization is undesirable, but what’s the alternative?

  4. There is probably not a country in the world that has a higher % of people in it that hate it and want it to fall apart, but of course we have the western powers not wanting their protectorate to fall apart.

  5. Better than the status quo. Would RS be independent in this scenario or try to join back with Serbia? It’d be rather hypocritical of them to deny Kosova’s independence and recognize RS

  6. For our American readers, or “narcissisms of little differences” fans, BiH is slightly smaller than West Virginia.

  7. Just split already. My cousin returned from KFOR mission in Kosovo recently. He is not very hopeful about the situation

  8. Oh ffs, will these damn peasants chill out at some point? That shitshow has been going on for decades already. “In danger of breaking up”? Really?

  9. I know that border changes are a real no-no in geopolitics, but I really cannot see an alternative in this case. The state is just non-functioning and it’s not going to get any better. A peaceful dissolution is better than just continuation of the current situation.

  10. So many comments wishing for a “peaceful dissolution”.

OK let us turn the tables on you.Would you accept your country being divided by your neighbors and their proxies?Or being divided because of small, but powerful minorities?

    No.

    OK then.
